We all hear that our world is changing through climate change and that more of our ecosystems are being destroyed.
Biodiversity is on the decline in the UK and according to a study conducted by the Natural History Museum, nearly half of Britain’s
biodiversity has gone since the industrial revolution through farming and urban spread triggered by the industrial and agricultural revolutions
being blamed as major factors for this loss. The study also shows the UK has lost more biodiversity than any G7 country, and is in the worst 10% globally.
The North Lincolnshire Woodland Trust has recently been created by a small group of residents from the Kirton in Lindsey area, its purpose is to create new
woodland in the local area for the benefit of the local community and the wider environment.
We are currently looking for suitable sites for our first project where we intend to plant native trees and create habitats for wildlife to improve biodiversity
around Kirton, if the site is suitable, we will also create pathways so the woodland can be enjoyed by members of the community. Hopefully we will be able to get some
trees planted by the end of 2022 so they can be counted in the Queens’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative which is part of the Queen’s jubilee year celebration and help get
Kirton put on the QGC map.
We will soon be looking to the residents of Kirton in Lindsey for your support with helping to fund this community project and then later to help with work on
the site.
